In 1952, founding Pastors Louis and Hazel Gibson were called to pioneer a church in the upstairs of a building on South New Jersey Street – also known as “The Upper Room.” They started with about seven children in the neighborhood for Sunday School and soon after the parents of these children received God’s call to salvation.
In 1955, the church had grown to the point that they needed another place to worship. Church members started building the basement on the five acres of land at 2700 S. Tibbs Avenue.
In 1981, God set their son, David Gibson, as Senior Pastor.
The church continued to flourish under Pastor David and his wife, Nina, even through a massive fire in 1987. This tragedy was turned into triumph - plans for a brand new sanctuary! During the rebuilding process, God spoke to Pastor David to continue all missions giving.
God continues to bless and bring growth. At Charity, our desire for growth is not in numbers, but in personal, abundant growth!
That's why we cherish our heritage and look foward to the future, Living Life Together!
